September has completely flown by, and I can’t believe we’re already in early October.
It was a gentle ease into the autumn months, with the temperatures still a little higher than I would prefer.
Despite this weather-related setback, I’ve been making a concerted effort to lean into all my favourite seasonal activities. I wanted to share some highlights from late September with you, as I’m grateful for all the little autumnal moments that I’ve managed to carve out.
I made apple cider doughnuts on a gloomy Sunday morning, paired with homemade apple cider. It was my first attempt at making doughnuts – my husband loved them, but personally I would have preferred a stronger apple flavour. I’ll keep experimenting!

I used apples that I picked from the orchards at Hewitt’s Farm, and you can read all about our apple-picking adventure.
The leaves are slowly starting to change, and I’ve been going for early-morning walks in the woods near our home. I love spotting the little signs of autumn – chestnuts on the ground, extra-busy squirrels and little gusts of wind stirring up the fallen leaves.

It’s been a dream of mine to knit a cosy scarf for the past few years, and this season I was finally able to accomplish my goal. I spent my evenings sitting in front of Gilmore Girls with my yarn and needles, eventually weaving together a chunky mustard-coloured scarf in just under a week.
It was such a success that I knitted a matching hat, and I couldn’t be prouder of my cosy little creations.

If you’re a thrifting enthusiast like I am, you probably have a list of holy grail items that you would just love to find.
Some people dream of cut-price designer bags or vintage Burberry trench coats, but my ambitions are a little more humble. I had my heart set on a very specific mug from the 70s or 80s, decorated with mushrooms and featuring a very cute soup recipe.
After a year of searching, my wish was finally granted this September!

It’s just as adorable as I imagined, and currently has pride of place in our very autumnal living room.
I’ve leaned into decorating for autumn in a big way this year. There are pumpkins in every corner, vintage mushrooms growing out of our plant pot and wonderful seasonal books piled on the coffee table.
It’s such a cosy little space, and it makes me so excited for the chilly days and nights that are starting to appear on the horizon.

When a large package arrived on our doorstep last week, my husband and I were both excited and intrigued. Imagine our surprise when we found a selection of autumn-themed snacks from Trader Joe’s, one of my favourite American stores!
Our friend had kindly sent them all the way from Utah, allowing me to live out my pumpkin spice dreams from my English cottage. We’ve been snacking on them ever since, and every bite tastes like autumn.
She even included a little sweet cinnamon pumpkin hand sanitiser from Bath and Body Works, which came with the cutest little mushroom holder.
I’m obsessed.

Now that October is here, we’re officially deep into the autumn months. I’m so excited to pick pumpkins, watch spooky movies and hand out candy to all the kids in my neighbourhood on Halloween.
I just love this time of year!
